Step by step
- Install Lovly on both iPhones. Lovly needs iOS 17 or later, and both of you need the app.
- Pair once. One of you sends the invite link from the app. The other opens it, or types the 8-character code.
- Add the Canvas widget. Press and hold your Lock Screen, tap Customize, choose the Lock Screen, tap the widget area and pick Lovly, then Canvas.
- Draw and tap Send. Open Lovly, draw anything on the shared canvas, and tap Send.
- It is on their Lock Screen. Their Canvas widget updates with your drawing. They see it the next time they pick up their phone.
Your partner adds the widget on their phone too, so your drawings reach them. Stuck on the widget step? See how to add the Lovly widget.
What they will see
Lock Screen widgets are drawn by iOS in a single tint, so your drawing appears in white ink over their wallpaper. On the Home Screen it keeps its colours. If they are asleep in another time zone, Lovly can hold a drawing until their morning, so it is the first thing they see.
Ideas for a first drawing
- A heart, obviously. It is the one everyone sends first.
- The weather where you are: a sun, a cloud, rain.
- A moon if it is late for them.
- Their name, badly.
- Something only the two of you will get.
What it costs
Drawing together is free. Your drawings reach each other’s Lock Screen free for the first 3 days after you pair; after that the widget shows each new drawing blurred until you have Lovly+. Lovly+ is $7.99 a month or $44.99 a year (US), and one purchase covers both of you.
